The striker missed his side’s last two games through injury but could return for the trip to Manchester City on Sunday
Manchester United forward Romelu Lukaku is in contention for Sunday’s Manchester derby after returning to training.
United boss Jose Mourinho revealed the news in his press conference on Friday ahead of his side’s trip to Manchester City.
Lukaku missed the Red Devils’ victories over Bournemouth and Juventus respectively through injury.
However, Mourinho says the Belgium international “could” return against City but a decision will be made after training on Saturday.
“No new injuries,” Mourinho told MUTV when asked about his squad ahead of the City match.
“So from Juventus, we don’t bring important injuries. We have ‘touches’ but I don’t think any player that was available for Juventus will be out.
“We have a chance – it is Friday morning now – that Lukaku could be back.”
Lukaku, who last featured for United in their 2-1 Premier League victory over Everton on October 28, has struggled for form so far this season.
The striker has netted just four goals in all competitions but his return to training is a boost for United and Mourinho.
United have been plagued by injury concerns since the start of the campaign, particularly to experienced figures, but Mourinho is still pleased to have a number of them back.
“I said in the home game against Juventus that I didn’t make any change because there we no [experienced] attacking players on the bench,” he added.
“It was really difficult with no Alexis [Sanchez], no [Marouane] Fellaini.
“Everybody was playing and I had no changes to do. A rich bench normally means points and, against Juventus, we had the bench that could help us change the game.”
United travel to City having lost just one of their last six games in all competitions, winning four.
