Down to the final regular season week of the MLS schedule, there are only playoff spots up for grabs in the Western Conference, as the Eastern Conference is all wrapped up unless Orlando City makes up an eight-point goal differential over the New England Revolution.
New England holds a three-point lead and the aforementioned eight-point goal differential, meaning the nearly impossible scenario for Orlando City would be for Orlando City to win, New England to lose and to make up the eight points. Because there’s a 99% chance that won’t happen, only playoff positioning is up for grabs in the final week in the Eastern Conference.
New England, Montreal, Toronto and Columbus are all within three points of each other as a lot of moving and shaking can still occur in terms of playoff seeding. The New York Red Bulls have the No. 1 seed in hand at 57 points, with D.C. United and Columbus jockeying for second and third with 51 and 50 points respectively.
The Western Conference is much less cut and dry. San Jose is the first team outside of the playoff cutline (six teams) with 47 points. There are four teams within striking distance, as the third-seeded Whitecaps have 50 points. Along with the Whitecaps, Portland has 50 points followed by Seattle and Sporting KC, both with 48 points.
At least the No. 1 seed is clear, as FC Dallas will be top dog in the West with 57 points. Seeds two through seven are unpredictable for the time being as MLS fans await this weekend’s results.
According to TiqIQ.com, the Montreal Impact have the most expensive MLS tickets this weekend with an average ticket price of $195.56 and a get-in price of $80. The second most expensive game is the Philadelphia Union against Orlando City SC with an average ticket price of $151.97 and a get-in price of $38, while the third most expensive game is when Sporting KC tries to hold their playoff spot against the LA Galaxy with an average ticket price of $84.83 and a get-in price of $37.
Out-of-town fans of Sporting KC can see them clinch a playoff spot at home by using Hipmunk.com for cheap Kansas City airfare, in addition to locking up a Kansas City hotel on Hipmunk to complete the travel plans.
