The Barcelona midfielder insists his young team-mate has what it takes to play for the club after his last-gasp goal
Ousmane Dembele’s equaliser for Barcelona against Atletico Madrid will help him settle in at the club, says Sergio Busquets.
After Diego Costa’s first La Liga goal of the season put Atletico in front at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday, Barca boss Ernesto Valverde sent on Dembele.
The 21-year-old made the move count, cutting in from the right and slotting a shot past Jan Oblak to level matters and keep his side top of the league by virtue of a 1-1 draw.
The France forward has been the subject of media speculation over his private life and future, with the likes of with Bernd Schuster claiming that Barcelona made a mistake in bringing the forward from Borussia Dortmund .
But Busquets believes Dembele has the talent to help the club and hopes his exploits on Saturday will see him change the narratvie moving forward.
“This goal will come in handy, he has to adapt to both his private life and football,” Busquets told Movistar following the 1-1 draw.
“We have to help him because he’s very young and we know he can help us a lot.”
A tight match saw both sides struggle for opportunities, Costa’s goal coming from Atletico’s first corner of the match, while Barca captain Lionel Messi was quiet until he set up Dembele.
“We dominated more and we had more of the ball,” added Busquets.
“We were the ones who tried to win the most, but I think the game is fair.
“We wanted to play but it was difficult because they worked together a lot. Atletico raise their game for matches like this.”
Having Dembele on form would be a big boost for Barcelona, who are staring a busy month in the face ahead of the winter break.
The club are back in action Wednesday against PSV in the Champions League before returning to league action next Sunday with a match against Villareal to open up the month of December.
They will then pile on five matches in 20 days before getting a bit of a rest over the festive period.
