Gone, but not forgotten.
After meeting his end in Season 6 of Game of Thrones, the beloved Hodor returned to “hold the door” once more on Wednesday for the show’s superfans on a TripAdvisor Game of Thrones tour in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
Kristian Nairn, who played the gentle giant on the show, brought his iconic character back to life and held the door for fans as they made their way through the tour. “I’m here in Northern Ireland, and I’m about to surprise a group of unsuspecting fans,” Nairn said in an Instagram video, before putting some muscle onto the door as the group stood behind it.

On the show, Hodor sacrificed his life to save Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and Meera (Ellie Kendrick) while they were being chased by creepy looking wights and White Walkers. Hodor held the door to the cave shut as Meera shouted the now unforgettable line: “Hold the door!”

While Nairn had a blast shocking fans in Belfast, the Game of Thrones Season 7 premiere took place in Los Angeles Wednesday night with Hempstead Wright, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Gwendoline Christie, Kit Harington, and more showing off their stylings on the blue carpet at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Hempstead Wright, who looked dapper in a Burberry suit, told InStyle he wasn’t ready for the show to end. “I don’t really want to acknowledge yet that this is nearly over, because it’s been pretty much 50 percent of my life, ever,” he said. “So the fact that it’s coming to an end is like, what? How?”

“This is a kind of vast, sprawling, complex story that you just can’t ever envision an end to,” he continued.
