Some people say a brother is like a lifelong best friend, a built-in confidant, a support network that lasts forever … but Ben Affleck is not one of those people.
When Ben’s little brother, Casey Affleck, won a Golden Globe on Sunday for his performance in Manchester by the Sea, he neglected to thank one very key influence—or, in the words of Ben: “He thanked a sh—load of people. I got to tell you the truth, someone was omitted.”
Say it ain’t so: Casey did, in fact, forget to thank his big brother.
On Monday, Affleck sat down with Jimmy Kimmel to discuss the grave injustice. “I was a little taken aback,” the Live by Night star said on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Helpfully, the late night host did a little research on Ben’s behalf and was able to unearth the actor’s first Academy Award acceptance speech back in 1998 for Good Will Hunting. And, indeed, Affleck thanked Casey, calling him “my brother, who’s brilliant.” That’s high praise, Casey.
Kimmel mentioned that if Casey were to win an Oscar at the upcoming ceremony, it would be a historic moment for brothers at the award show. Affleck agreed—but also stopped to note that this wouldn’t be the only historic first for the Academy …

“This would be the very first time someone would win an Oscar who didn’t brush his teeth from ages 10 to 14,” Affleck shared.
“It would be the very first time someone wins an Oscar who pulls his pants all the way down at the urinal,” he continued. “Historic in many ways. The first person to win who’s scared of butterflies. Not only that, he would be the first person to win who used to touch himself watching Vicki the Robot from Small Wonder.”
Oh, and there’s more: “Last, but not least, this would be the very first person to win an Academy Award who once asked his brother if Back to the Future was a true story,” Affleck concluded.
