NEW YORK, NEW YORK — It may be hard to fly out of New York area airports on Tuesday as a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain make their way over the Northeast.

New York City is expected to get two to four inches of snow by the end of the day, with most of the wintry mix of snow, freezing rain and sleet likely to hit late morning, according to National Weather Service predictions. About 2.4 inches of snow are expected to fall before 2 p.m., followed by steady rainfall into Wednesday morning.

Hundreds of flights have already been cancelled at the New York area’s three major airports, with many others still on the schedule getting delays. JFK issued a ground stop Tuesday afternoon due to snow and ice, according to a meteorologist from News 12.

Here are the cancellations and delays so far as of 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to Flight Aware:

JFK:

Total delays: 78

Total cancellations: 240

LaGuardia:

Total delays: 68

Total cancellations: 495

Newark Liberty:

Total delays: 150

Total cancellations: 176

Flights were also already cancelled or delayed for Wednesday, including11 cancelled at JFK, 22 at LaGuardia and 11 at Newark.
