St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State University head wrestling coach Steve Costanzo and his staff of assistant coaches has announced the latest additions to the Huskies’ wrestling program. Five student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent and will join the SCSU wrestling team for 2018-19. The group includes Luke Clark (Dresser, Wisc.), Boone Giulio (American Falls, Idaho), Gannon Hughes (Oswego, Ill.), Jacob Mandt (Chatfield, Minn.) and Cameron Riggs (North Platte, Neb.).
“We are very excited to add these five additions to our program,” said Costanzo. “These young men are all high character individuals that will add strong depth to an already talented squad. All five individuals could add an immediate impact in their respective weight classes.”
Clark hails from nearby St. Croix Falls High School where he is a two-time WIAA D3 state place winner. In 2017, he placed fourth at the WIAA D3 State Championships at 170-pounds with a 40-3 mark. In 2016, Clark placed sixth at the WIAA D3 State Championships at 160-pounds. He has captured three WIAA D3 Region One titles and two WIAA D3 Section One Championships. In addition, Clark earned All-American honors in 2017 by placing fifth at the USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals and has accumulated an overall mark of 109-18. He is the son of Dan and Tracey Clark.

American Falls High School, Giulio, will join the Huskies after completing his senior year. The Idaho native is currently a three-time IHSAA State Championships place winner. Giulio finished second at the 2017 IHSAA 3A State Championships at 138-pounds. Previously, he was crowned the IHSAA 3A State Champion in 2015 and 2016. Giulio, the younger brother of Huskies wrestling great, V.J. Giulio, is a three-time IHSAA 3A – District V Champion. He sports a career record of 125-16 and is the son of Jim and Jennifer Giulio.
Hughes, a senior at Oswego High School, is a two-time IHSA 3A state qualifier. He is a two-time Conflict at Carver place winner, placing second in 2017 at 145-pounds and fifth in 2016 at 138-pounds. A past Illinois Cadet Greco Roman State Champion, Hughes has accumulated a mark of 115-29 the last three seasons. He is the son of Dennis and Karen Hughes.
Chatfield High School senior, Mandt, finished as the 2017 MSHSL State Champion at 145-pounds in class 1A. He also finished third in 2016 and fifth in 2015 at the MSHSL Championships. In addition, Mandt placed fifth at the prestigious Rumble on the Red Championships in 2016 at 145-pounds. In the past three season, Mandt has a career mark of 105-10. He is the son of Mike and Sue Mandt.
A product from North Platte, Neb., Riggs, is a three-time NSAA Class D undefeated state champion. He placed first at 132-pounds in 2017, first at 132-pounds in 2016 and first at 113-pounds in 2015. Riggs is a three-time Conference and District Champion and has been named the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler in five of the last six tournaments he competed in. This past fall, he was named All-American by placing fifth at 138-pounds in the USA Wrestling
Folkstyle Nationals. Riggs has a current record of 144-0 with 96 of those wins coming by fall. He is the son of Dan & Carolyn Riggs.
“I feel really good about the quality of student-athletes we continue to recruit to Huskies wrestling,” said Assistant Coach Brady Wilson. “We have a nice room of quality individuals who are all striving to be the best they can be.”
The #2 St. Cloud State Wrestling team will open its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season with a home dual match against Southwest Minnesota State University on Thursday, Nov. 30. The match has been designated as Youth/Middle School/Prep Night and there will be $1 admission for all students in grades K-12 for the evening. The action in Halenbeck Hall gets underway at 7 p.m.
