One reason why wrestling fans are looking forward to 2019 is because of the rumored introduction of All Elite Wrestling. The upstart promotion is reportedly being created by the members of The Elite, and its is even said to backed by the Khan family, owners of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks already experienced success with their All In pay-per-view earlier this year, and several more shows and events from AEW are supposedly on the way soon. It’s been reported that AEW is looking to partner up with promotions such as New Japan Pro Wrestling, but it sounds like those in charge of All Elite Wrestling may have been offered the chance to buy the Impact Wrestling promotion outright.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed that Impact’s parent company, Anthem Sports & Entertainment, approached AEW and offered to sell off Impact. The members of The Elite decided to turn down Anthem’s offer. Meltzer noted that the offer was sent to them “months ago,” which is right around the same time that Impact was looking for new TV partner. It was recently announced that Impact Wrestling would be leaving Pop TV to move to the Pursuit Channel. Impact will begin airing its weekly show on Pursuit starting on January 11th. Meanwhile, All Elite Wrestling’s existence has yet to even be confirmed by The Elite, but that is all expected to change at some point in early 2019.
Ring of Honor has been on a signing spree lately as new stars continue to hop on board while current roster members have been re-signing with the promotion. However, it sounds like ROH might be losing longtime competitor Christopher Daniels. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter says that the 48-year-old wrestler has begun accepting independent bookings for 2019, which may indicate that he won’t be signing a new contract with ROH. The Observer does not that Daniels could continue working as a producer for ROH, which would allow him to accept indie bookings. Daniels is not being advertised for any Ring of Honor January shows, so it is certainly possible that his time with the promotion may be coming to an end.
