SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- Seven Augustana wrestlers advanced to day two after day one of the NCAA Super Region Three Championship.
Duncan Stoebner (125 pounds) lost a tough first round match against Taylor Curtis from Southwest Minnesota State 8-6. Stoebner was leading most of the match until Curtis scored a takedown late in the third period to gain the victory. Stoebner would then lose his next match by a 10-5 decision to Josh Jensen of University of Mary.
David Potratz (133 Pounds) won his first round matchup with a third period pin over Matt Selman from Minnesota State. The match was tied late in the third period when Potratz scored the takedown and pin with seven seconds left in the match. Potratz would lose by a 26-5 technical decision over Blake Bosch from MSU Moorhead. Potratz then scored a 9-2 decision over Antonio Meikel from Southwest Minnesota State.
Brandon Charbonneau (141 pounds) won a close 7-6 decision over Cortez Arredondo from Southwest Minnesota State in dramatic fashion. With the clock winding down, Charbonneau took down Arredondo but was not awarded the points. The Viking coaches used a challenge and after a long review, the referee awarded the two-point takedown to gain the victory. Charbonneau would lose a tough 3-1 sudden victory loss to Darren Wynn from Mckendree. Charbonneau then advanced to day two with a 5-3 decision victory over Jared Mestas from Lindenwood.
Colin Ayers (149 Pounds) went 0-2 losing by a 8-7 decision over Tyler Stenberg from Northern State. Ayers was down 8-5 late in the third period when he scored a takedown and almost got Stenberg into a pin before time ran out. Ayers would then lose a tough 10-7 decision to Damian Penichet from Upper Iowa.
Shawn Hatlestad (157 Pounds) lost his first match 13-10 to Blake Perryman from Northern State. Hatlestad tied up the match in the middle of the third period. Perryman then scored a takedown to secure the victory. In the consolation bracket, Hatlestad pinned Dane Fischer of University of Mary in the third period. Hatlestad was then eliminated from the regional championship by way of a 5-2 decision to Jordan Rinken from Upper Iowa
Mitch Rechtzigel (165 pounds) won a tough 3-2 decision over Brad Mass from Minnesota State. Rechtzigel and Mass were tied at one last in the third when Mitch scored the takedown to get the the win. Rechtzigel advanced today with a 4-1 decision victory over Adam Blees from MSU Moorhead.
Tim Weber (174 Pounds) defeated Batchuiuun Zuikhuu from Lindenwood by a 4-1 decision. Weber led all throughout the match for the grind it out win. Weber was then defeated by a 10-2 major decision. Weber then went on to win by an injury default over Luke Komotos from Truman State.
Aero Amo (184 Pounds) advanced to the semi-finals with a 5-1 decision over Laurel Landals from Lindenwood.
Clayton Wahlstrom (197 Pounds) defeated Michael Urban from MSU Moorhead. Urban was leading 2-1 after the first period. Wahlstrom then scored three
takedowns in the final two periods to secure the victory. Wahlstrom in the second round lost a tough 3-1 decision over Joe Gomez from Northern State. Wahlstrom then moved on with a 4-3 decision victory over Austin Hailey from Ouachita Baptist.

Michael Lowman (285 Pounds) was defeated by a 6-3 decision over Malcolm Allen from Minnesota State. Then moved on to Sunday with a 3-1 sudden victory over Jacob Borgmeyer from Lindenwood.
