OREM, Utah — North Dakota State University 285-pound senior Evan Knutson (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West HS) has been named the Western Wrestling Conference Wrestler of the Week after an outstanding performance on the mat last week. The conference award was announced Monday by the league.

Knutson recorded a pin to seal North Dakota State’s 23-14 win over South Dakota State in a non-conference dual on Sunday afternoon in Fargo. NDSU won the Border Bell trophy for the second straight year with the victory.

Knutson held a 5-1 lead over SDSU’s J.J. Everard entering the third period. The Bison senior added another takedown and posted his first fall of the season with 11-seconds left in the match. The 13th-ranked Knutson improved to 11-4 on the season including a 3-2 record in dual matches. He now has 13 career pins and improved to 66-49 all-time at NDSU.

The conference honor is Knutson’s first of the season and first of his career.

The Western Wrestling Conference, which is in its ninth year of competition, is comprised of six schools including the Air Force Academy, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, Utah Valley and Wyoming.
