Expounding on what she calls a disease, which she feels she’ll have for life, Marie asserted that although she’s been sober for about five years, she still considers herself an alcoholic. Marie also insinuated that she intends to reach out and educate other people going through the same issues.
Eva Marie penned a post for the popular magazine’s website—a few excerpts of which can be read below—
“I’m an alcoholic. I have relapsed, destroyed relationships, hurt my family, and disappointed myself numerous times. I will be an alcoholic for the rest of my life. The fact that I have been sober for almost five years doesn’t mean that I am “cured,” it doesn’t mean that I had a drinking phase in my 20s, and it doesn’t mean that I can have a few drinks now and again or just drink in moderation. There are no shades of gray when it comes to alcoholism—it’s black and white.”
Furthermore, Marie emphasized that her road to recovery began with a very simple admission—that she is an alcoholic—and admitting that truth saved her life. Marie added that alcoholism is a disease, maybe genetic or caused by past/present circumstances in one’s life.
Additionally, Marie elucidated that her goal is to live a healthy, fulfilling and productive life, and for that, she focuses on her treatment. Marie continued that because she has the disease, she is the one responsible to go out and get help.
Besides, Marie pointed out that while addicted to alcohol, her life was in a terrible phase, as she’d been in jail for 3 months after multiple DUIs, didn’t have a stable job, and was living in an unsafe, cheap, rented apartment. Marie then explained that now she’s married, has a great house, multiple businesses, and a blossoming Hollywood career.
Natalie Eva Marie performed for the WWE from 2013 to 2017 and now pursues a career as an actress in Hollywood.
Marie parted ways with the WWE in 2017 and has credited WWE legend Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson for helping her carve out a career in Hollywood.
