The Wrap is reporting that AEW Dynamite was viewed by 1.4 million viewers on Wednesday night. The fledgling promotion went head to head with WWE NXT for the first time, and seemingly trounced the black and yellow brand. WWE NXT was viewed by only 891,000, which is down 11% from last week’s unopposed one-hour edition of the program.
This is a big victory for AEW. WWE even released a statement earlier in the day, congratulating AEW on a successful premiere. Considering WWE ran a show featuring three title matches, and the NXT returns of Finn Balor & Tommaso Ciampa, its pretty significant that AEW was able to beat them in such resounding fashion.
While NXT’s total viewership was down, it rose 1% in the key demographic to 414,000, while AEW still beat them with 878,000 viewers in the demo.
