Report by Mike Killam for ProWrestling.com
Shane McMahon is out to kick off the show but before he can get started, he’s interrupted by Smackdown General Manager Daniel Bryan. They roll footage of what happened at Clash of Champions, with Bryan making a fast count to give Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn the win to save their careers. Bryan makes his case that he did what he had to do because Shane was unwilling to call it down the middle.
They go back and forth arguing over what the right call was, but it was clear that they weren’t going to get on the same page. Shane goes off on doing what’s right for Smackdown, and Bryan cuts him off and says what he really means is doing what’s “best for business”. This gets a good reaction from the crowd, as Bryan fires up and said he fought against those very words at the height of his in-ring career, and he refuses to be a slave to them now. Daniel said he accepted the position as GM because he respected Shane and he thought they were on the same page. He says that if Shane has a new game plan he might as well fire him right here and now, because he refuses to sit back and watch Shane turn into his father. McMahon gets an angry look on his face as the crowd chants “who’s your daddy?”, but he regains composure and almost passive-aggressively tells Bryan “good luck with tonight’s show.”
THE USOS vs. SHELTON BENJAMIN & CHAD GABLE
This is a non-title match. Gable starts things out with a ton of big suplexes on both of the champions, making the tag to his partner. Benjamin hits a nice suplex and starts firing off with elbows and kicks in the corner, but he quickly falls to the double team offense of the Usos. During the commercial break the champs kept control with Benjamin in their corner, keeping him isolated from Gable for several minutes.
The hot tag was finally made Chad Gable who came in like a house of fire, throwing German suplexes left and right. He turned around into a superkick from Jimmy Uso, as Benjamin and Jey go flying over the ropes together. Another superkick from Jimmy and it looks like the champions are going to easily retain here. Jey mounts the ropes looking for the Superfly Splash and hits it, but Gable rolled through into a small package for a very close nearfall, but Jimmy came back to make the save at the last second. It’s an all-out brawl to close out the match, as Gable sets in with a few impressive, rolling German suplexes. Shelton gets Jey on his shoulders and Gable comes off the top rope to nail him with a powerbomb/lariat combo.
Winners: Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable
