Apparently every member of Bullet Club is now a ROH World 6-Man Tag Team Champion… Yes, there still only three belts; don’t try to do the math.
During the ongoing “Global Wars” tour between Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling, the infamous faction declared that any member of Bullet Club could defend the trios titles, invoking a modernized version of the Freebird Rule. The original champions who actually won the titles back in August were Hangman Page and the Young Bucks, but as of this weekend we’ve seen variations of Cody Rhodes, Kenny Omega and “The Villain” Marty Scurll also help defend the gold.
For those unfamiliar, the Freebird Rule was created during the 1980s when The Fabulous Freebirds were one of the hottest acts in professional wrestling. Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy and Buddy Roberts would win tag team titles across various promotions, but because of their popularity as a trio it was determined that any two members of the group could defend the titles in officially sanctioned matches.
WWE Superstars Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E are the most popular act in the modern era to utilize the Freebird Rule, and have done so through four seperate reigns as WWE Tag Team Champions.
