Marseille have announced that attacker Amine Harit (25) has suffered a cruciate ligament sprain, but are yet to put a timeline on his return.

Harit was set to feature for Morocco in the upcoming World Cup. The former Schalke man had reportedly already packed his bags and was set to leave to join up with the squad on Monday morning. However, mid-way through Marseille’s win against Monaco on Sunday night, Harit collided with Axel Disasi, and in the process sustained the injury that has ruled him out of the World Cup. Some players, notably Youssouf Fofana and Dimitri Payet looked visibly disturbed by the injury.

The initial tests are in, and they don’t make good reading. Harit is suffering from a cruciate ligament sprain in his left knee. Les Phocéens added that he will follow a program of adapted care, but the club didn’t comment on the duration of his absence, which is likely to be lengthy.
