Wallabies veteran Kurtley Beale has been arrested for alleged sexual assault as part of an investigation into an incident at Beach Road Hotel in Bondi last year.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, a 28-year-old reported an incident of sexual assault on December 17.

Wallaby Beale in custody

Beale has been taken into custody after being stopped at a vehicle stop and has been taken to Waverly police station.

The experienced player had recently returned to the Waratahs set-up, hoping to push for a spot at the World Cup in France later this year with the Wallabies.

However, those dreams hang in the balance following his arrest.

Beale’s alleged sexual assault comes after another rugby union player, Rufus McLean of Glasgow Warriors, pleaded guilty to domestic abuse earlier this week.

The information coming out of Australia is limited to the ongoing investigation, and more information will be released in due course.

However, an update from the Waratahs on Friday confirmed that Beale had been stood down from all forms of rugby with immediate effect.

Suspended from all rugby

“Rugby Australia and the NSW Waratahs advise that Kurtley Beale has been suspended from all forms of rugby with immediate effect pending the conclusion of legal proceedings, as well as Rugby Australia’s own investigations,” read a Waratahs statement.

“This step follows Mr Beale’s arrest and subsequent charge with serious criminal offences and is in line with Rugby Australia’s Professional Player Code of Conduct.

“The Rugby Union Players Association (RUPA) has been informed of this development.

“As this remains a legal matter, there will be no further comment until the conclusion of these proceedings.”
