In speaking with Le Parisien before tonight’s meeting between PSG and Marseille in Paris, Marseille’s Arsenal loanee defender William Saliba (21) explained how he’s become invested at OM despite being from the same Paris suburb as Kylian Mbappé originally:

You’re from the Paris region, how are you doing at OM?“It’s special, it only takes two or three weeks to feel fully part of Marseille. It’s like you’ve been living there forever, although I come from Bondy [a Paris suburb]. I was born there and I did everything there – school, my childhood. I’ll never forget it. But when you wear the Marseille jersey, you are 100% Marseille.”

What do you think of Kylian Mbappé who, like you, grew up in Seine-Saint-Denis?“For me, he’s one of the best in the world, if not the best… We were at the same school. He started at a club in Bondy and now it’s nice to see him at the top. It’s encouraging for young players. It proves that anything is possible.”

Can you tell us about the period when you were coached by his father Wilfrid?“It went really well with Wilfrid, I had him for a year in the under 11s, he didn’t keep his tongue in his pocket. When he had to tell us something, he told us. If we were bad, he would tell us and, frankly, he made us improve a lot. He taught us a lot of things. He is truly an exceptional person.”
