Speaking on RMC show Breaking Sport earlier this week, Lille manager Christophe Galtier admitted that he was powerless to prevent Ivorian attacker Nicolas Pépé.
“I don’t have the power (to prevent a Nicolas Pépé departure). Secondly, you can’t put a veto on a player from leaving, because if they want to leave and they have a good relationship with the board, he will be able to leave. He, he can leave. When we were fighting relegation last season, he performed, I think he scored 14 goals in the second half of last season. He wanted to do a full season with the squad, with us, with the new staff, with me and he did not have the intention of leaving and he really did make the right choice.”
“He will be courted by big clubs (this summer), in my opinion the discussions between the president and Nicolas suggest that he will be allowed to leave. Certainly not for free, for a very high price, but big clubs will be after him and I hope he has a choice and he will make the right choice.”
