A 5-year contract awaits Thomas Lemar at Atletico Madrid, after the Spanish side agreed a fee with AS Monaco for the player yesterday, a fact that both clubs confirmed officially.
There is however grave discrepancies in terms of the size of the fee between media outlets.
RMC report a fee worth €60m, with a large sell-on percentage clause attached, which Monaco would profit handsomely from in the event of re-sale.
Téléfoot reported yesterday that the fee was €65m.
L’Équipe this morning claim that the agreement is at €72m plus bonuses.
MARCA last night contended that the fee will be worth between €70m and €80m.
At the moment, it is difficult to ascertain which outlet is closer, with RMC having the closest links to VP Vadim Vasilyev, but MARCA as the Madrid outlet unlikely to over-egg the fee.
Real Madrid and Chelsea had recently made their interest in the player known, and had Zinedine Zidane stayed at RMCF, he would have made Lemar a priority, but his departure but the brakes on that pursuit.
Chelsea asked Lemar to wait until they made the appointment of their new manager official – having learned the lessons from the previous window, Lemar preferred not to wait.
AS Monaco will consider this a good deal, for a player who has majorly flopped during the 2017/18 campaign, despite the fact that they rejected €100m from Arsenal for the player last August.
Arsenal and Liverpool had sounded out Lemar’s entourage again this summer, but had not moved any further than that.

Lemar chose Atletico Madrid because he was convinced that by working with Diego Simeone, he could improve his physical and fitness capabilities as well as adding to his trophy cabinet.
