The Ospreys have suffered a double injury setback ahead of Saturday’s United Rugby Championship (URC) clash with Ulster after Justin Tipuric and Gareth Anscombe were both ruled out with rib injuries.

Anscombe left the field during the first half of the Welsh region’s 32-17 victory over Glasgow Warriors in Swansea on Saturday. This, after he was cleared out by the Scottish outfit’s hooker George Turner.

Ospreys head coach Toby Booth raised the matter after the game and said he would look at the incident for foul play.

“The citing commissioner issued a yellow card post game, so that’s final,” he told the BBC.

“My motivation wasn’t to single out a player. It was just to protect our own.

Painful experience

“Gareth’s very sore and won’t be available this week. It’s about pain. He’s not been on the training pitch this week.

“It’s about getting him back and up to speed as soon as we can [but] I don’t think he’s going to be too long.”

Meanwhile, Ospreys skipper and openside flanker Tipuric missed the victory against the Warriors after sustaining his injury during the Ospreys’ narrow Round Two URC defeat against the Lions.

“He’s not far [from returning],” said Booth.

“Again, it’s a pain thing. It’s not like a new injury. Those things can be uncomfortable because when you breathe in and breathe out, your rib cage moves.”
