MONTREAL — The daughter of a Quebec man who died following an alleged robbery attempt in Sint Maarten says her father was shot while trying to protect her.
The victim’s daughter, Yanie Valade, paid tribute to her father in an emotional Facebook post, saying he died a hero.
A separate family member identified the Canadian victim as Sylvain Valade from Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, a town in the Laurentians region north of Montreal.
Translation: I have no words to describe how much it hurts to lose you in his way. A tragic and unimaginable end. Images keep swirling in my head, and the noise of gunshots haunts me. My loving father, you died a hero, you saved my life and protected me until your last breath, just like you always have. Today I lost a part of me, the man of my life, the best dad anyone could ever ask for. I’m relying on you to give me the strength and the courage to carry on. I love you with a love that’s unconditional and irreplaceable. Watch out for me like you did during my whole childhood. You’ll be in my heart forever. I love you.
