The Spanish defender has committed to a new four-year deal with the Blues, with there never any doubt in his mind that he would be staying put
Cesar Azpilicueta, fresh from signing a new four-year contract, claims to have never given any thought to leaving Chelsea.
The hard-working Spaniard linked up with the Blues in the summer of 2012.
He has delivered remarkable value for money on an initial €7 million transfer fee, with two Premier League titles, the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League collected over the course of 299 appearances.
Azpilicueta hopes there will be many more honours to come, with there never any doubt in the 29-year-old’s mind that he would be committing to fresh terms at Stamford Bridge.
He told Chelsea’s official website: “Since I have come here I have felt at home and I never had anything in my mind that made me think about moving abroad.
“When I had periods when I didn’t play I always felt the confidence from the club and from the manager and my only focus was on the pitch, and to work hard and to get my place.
“So I think everything has been very natural and progressive and I was always focused on improving as a player and winning trophies, which I think is what every player wants to do.”
The next challenge facing Azpilicueta and Chelsea is a meeting with reigning Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday.
Maurizio Sarri’s side head into that contest on the back of a run which has delivered just one top-flight win in four, with there an acceptance that standards need to be raised against unbeaten rivals.
Azpilicueta added: “The only response that we can give is on the pitch in this game.

“We know we are facing a team that at the moment is unbeaten but it does not matter who is in front of us, the fans deserve a reaction from the first minute at the Bridge.
“We have to do a big game as a team, playing all together.
“We know that after a defeat it is not easy but there is no choice, we have to analyse what we did wrong and what we are doing well to try to win.
“We need a big, big performance from everyone. Hopefully we can bring back the happiness to the club and the fans.”
