In a busy summer for Montpellier HSC, the Ligue 1 side has completed its third signing of the transfer window. Former Metz midfielder Florent Mollet officially joined MHSC on Thursday morning, signing on with La Paillade until 2022. Mollet will wear the #25 for Montpellier and joins fellow new recruits Damien Le Tallec and Petar Škuletić in southern France.
A real utility man capable of playing in multiple positions across the midfield, Mollet is at his best in a more advanced, attacking role. The French midfielder scored seven goals and provided one assist for FC Metz last season, meaning he played a part in 8 of Les Grenats’ 34 Ligue 1 goals. Adept at holding up the ball and bringing others into play, Mollet linked up well with fellow midfielders Mathieu Dossevi and Nolan Roux in Metz.
As Montpellier’s new #25 was a member of a recently relegated club, he was to say the least a sought-after man. Laurent Nicollin, the club president of La Paillade, spoke to this fact in the club’s transfer announcement. “It’s a good thing, it was the wish of the coach, we battled a bit to sign him, (and) now he is here,” Nicollin declared.
Mollet himself was very excited to be settling into his new home and to further develop under the tutelage of manager Michel Der Zakarian. In the same transfer announcement, the French midfielder added, “I still have a lot to learn, as this will be just my third season in Ligue 1. I hope to be key to the team, as I was signed for that.”
