Former St Étienne boss Christophe Galtier has reached an agreement in principle to become the new manager of struggling Ligue 1 side Lille, the club confirmed last night.
Galtier, who will not be able to sign players next month as the club is facing scrutiny from the French football financial watchdog, the DNCG, has been out of work since May 2017, when he quit Les Verts.
Galtier will replace Marcelo Bielsa, who was sacked after a series of performances that left Les Dogues in the relegation zone.
Christophe Galtier had the following to say on his inevitable appointment:
“I am very happy to join Lille. Even if I am aware of the situation that awaits us, I was very quickly convinced by Luis Campos’ arguments and about the viability and seriousness of the project run by Gérard Lopez and his team. I had different offers following my departure from St Étienne, but I was looking for a project that I could install myself in with big aims like Lille’s project.”
