SAN BERNARDINO, CA — More than 10,000 illegal marijuana plants were found last week inside the San Bernardino National Forest, causing irreversible damage to the forest. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said investigators found three large plots of marijuana growing in the forest near Marble Canyon, Arctic Canyon and East Fork Canyon.
The suspects, who are unknown, cleared natural foliage to facilitate the illegal cultivations, sheriff’s officials said.
Investigators also found camping equipment and large amounts of trash in the area, which show the suspects may have been living near the marijuana plants.
Investigators believe members of illegal drug trafficking organizations are responsible for the marijuana grows found in the National Forest.
