MOORHEAD, Minn.—The Minnesota State University Moorhead wrestling team will travel to Aberdeen, S.D., on Thursday to open the dual and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season against Northern State. The dual begins at 7 p.m.
MSUM will then host the annual Dragon Open at 11 a.m. on Sunday at Nemzek Fieldhouse.
In their last meet, the Dragons traveled to Minneapolis, Minn., for the Auggie-Adidas Invitational. Sophomore Mason Schulz earned runner-up honors in the Gold Division at 141 pounds to lead MSUM. Schulz has a record of 7-4 this season at 141. In the first-place match in the Gold Division, Schulz lost in a 7-3 decision to Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Hayden Schlough.
Sophomore Braydon Ortloff is 6-5 this season at 157. Ortloff made it to the Gold Division third-place match at the Auggie Invitational, but lost to University of St. Mary’s Patrick Boulanger in an 8-3 decision.
Sophomore Evan Foster has a 6-5 record this season at 174. Foster went 1-2 at the Auggie Invitational. In the Gold Division third-place match, Foster was pinned by Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Sawyer Massie.
Kris Nelson is in his 11th season as the MSUM head coach.

About Northern State
Northern State is 2-0 this season and 0-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Wolves are 1-0 at home. In the National Wrestling Coaches Association poll, Northern has two wrestlers in the top-25. Sophomore Dayne Morton (133 pounds) and sophomore Caden Moore (157 pounds) are both ranked eighth. Morton leads the team with a 12-0 record, while Moore is 11-1 this season. This season, Morton has won the Jamestown Jimmie Open, Dakota Wesleyan Alumni Open, and the Concordia-Moorhead Finn Grinaker. Moore’s wins include first-place finishes at the Finn Grinaker and DWU Alumni Open. The Wolves sit at fifth overall in the Super Region Five and have six wrestlers ranked regionally.
