INDIANAPOLIS — Minnesota State University Moorhead senior Adam Blees took second in the 174-pound weight class at the 40th Midwest Classic on Sunday while sophomore Cole Jones took fifth at 125-pounds.

Blees started his day in the semifinals, and won a 2-0 decision over Nathan Vandermeer of Findlay to advance to the championship match against NSIC foe Phillip Springsteen from the University of Mary, where Blees lost a close 3-0 decision to place second, the highest finisher the Dragons have ever had at the tournament.

Jones had a tough route to fifth place, starting his day off in the consolation round. His first opponent was No. 8 in the nation Eric Bartos from Mercyhurst, whom Jones defeated 9-4. His next match saw him take on the No. 5 ranked wrestler in the nation Marcus Povlick, where Jones won a 5-1 decision. He lost in the consolation semifinals to Tyler Kreith of Maryville University and took the fifth-place match via medical forfeit.

As a team the Dragons finished 17 out of 38 teams with 44.0 points.
