It was previously reported that the current plan for the main event of tonight’s Backlash PPV is for the No Disqualification WWE Title Match between AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura to end the show.
The report also indicates that the Roman Reigns vs Samoa Joe Match was given consideration of possible being the main event, but plans that were originally discussed for that match were dropped and so it no longer made sense for that match to close the show. It is unclear at the moment what exactly those plans were but it is possible that it could have been discussed under the assumption that Reigns would be going in Backlash as the Universal champion.
