Several different top stars in Impact Wrestling are set to have their contracts expire very soon. The likes of Eddie Edwards Alberto El Patron, Eli Drake all have contracts about to expire with the promotion, so is it possible that they could all be leaving Impact much like EC3 and Bobby Lashley did earlier this year? According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Edwards’ deal was about to expire very soon, but the former TNA World Heavyweight Champion just re-signed a deal that will see him stay with the company a bit longer. It was reported not too long ago that WWE was interested in recruiting Edwards soon. No other details about his new contract were provided.
Alberto El Patron is currently looked at as one of the biggest stars in the entire promotion at the moment. The man who formerly competed in WWE as Alberto Del Rio has admitted in past interviews that he would love to leave the promotion and have one last run in WWE before his planned retirement from the ring in 2019. Alberto is consistently featured in the main event slot of Impact shows, so it’s unsurprising to hear that Impact is hoping to keep him around PWInsider reports that Alberto’s current deal with Impact this April, but both sides are currently negotiating the terms of a possible new deal that could see him stay with the promotion for several more years.
Another star who has exploded in popularity ever since joining Impact has been Eli Drake. Drake had a run as world champion last year and he also got the chance to defend his title in the main event of the promotion’s annual Bound for Glory event. Drake (who formerly wrestled in NXT before being released by WWE) could also be on his way out of Impact unless a new deal is reached soon. Drake just recently confirmed in a recent interview with the Impact Lounge that his current deal with Impact Wrestling will expire on May 31st of this year. WWE has reportedly had interest in hiring Drake back for a while now, so he could be on his way there if negotiations do not work out with Impact.
